CUSCO!

Cusco is an incredible, magical, international city of contrasts and the oldest living city in the Americas, continuously inhabited for over 3,000 years!!

Nestled in the magnificent Andean mountain range, Cusco was known as the naval of the world, the centre of the Universe. It was the Inca capital of their entire empire that stretched from Chile right up into Ecuador, the largest empire ever seen in the Americas and the largest in the world at that time.

Cusco pulsates energy, its cultural uniqueness combining ancient Inca architecture, colonial history, contemporary 5star hotels, renowned nightlife, music, and cafes make for an unforgettable experience! The many beautiful Plazas, cobbled streets and churches create a stunning cityscape. Cusco is currently considered as one of the best cities to visit in South and Central America, by Travel and Leisure.

Its numerous exclusive boutiques and fresh produce and artisanal markets make for an extraordinary shopping extravaganza. Choose from the finest alpaca clothing and beautiful Andean textiles to fruits such as lucuma, granadilla and chirimoya and handcrafted ceramics. Between the bustling local markets and thriving community of street vendors be prepared to be enthralled.

Cusco is a wonderful sensory overload!

The Sacred Valley

Just slightly north of Cusco and an hour’s drive away at a lesser altitude you’ll find the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Stretching along the Urubamba river for around 60 km this region is beautiful simplicity. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, the Sacred Valley affords its visitors a sanctuary, a retreat, and spectacular views. Hummingbirds and parakeets colour the sky and locals walk by with their sheep or cows going about their day-to-day routine peacefully. Everything seems relaxed and time slows down. There are gorgeous little villages dotted along the river’s route, incredible Inca sites to be discovered and you’ll hopefully find a sense of self-discovery here as well.

Art and Culture

Cusco has a rich and diverse art and culture history. The Museum of Pre-Columbian Art – MAP exhibits an internationally recognized collection of beautiful ancient artifacts. The Museum of Contemporary Textile art showcases Maximo Laura the award-winning Peruvian artist. The Museum of Hilario Hendevil the famous Peruvian Sculptor is a fascinating experience. Cusco is a truly bohemian centre for progressive and traditional artwork in myriad forms and mediums. It’s an eye-opening education for anyone but especially those of discerning art appreciators and artists alike.

Adrenaline Junkies!

If high octane activities are what you’re looking for, Cusco does not falter in the action and adrenaline pumping arena! Outdoors is where it’s at, you would have to spend quite some time here to experience everything there is on offer! Aside from the phenomenal hiking routes through the jaw-dropping Andes… There’s bungee jumping, horse riding, ziplining, rafting, quad biking, downhill biking, rock-climbing, the list is endless and the setting is awesome. Situated at 3400msal Cusco is to be respected for its altitude. Prior to hiking we recommend at least 2 full days of acclimatization.

Gastronomy

Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food! Peru is regarded as one of the world’s best culinary destinations. Chinese, African, Japanese, and Italian influences fuse together to create dishes from coastal, jungle, and mountainous ingredients with flavours that are simply sublime.  5 of the world's best restaurants are in Peru!  There are many sumptuous vegetarian and vegan choices as well, with indigenous produce such as quinoa, camu camu, corn (the Incas gold), chia, and other amazingly tasty nutritious superfoods, the ancient Peruvians knew all about healthy eating! Not forgetting that the best Pisco is to be found in Peru and the national drink, the Pisco sour, is sensational.
