LIMA!
Lima, The City of Kings! was founded and named as such, by the Spaniard Francisco Pizarro in 1535 on the Catholic holiday of Epiphany, 6th January. Over the years the name changed to Lima, however, name change or not, there is no escaping the grandiose feel of the city. Breathtaking colonial architecture, skyscrapers, amazingly excavated sites of Inca engineering, high-end restaurants, galleries, museums, parks, stadiums, Lima has it all! With 43 districts, it is truly a sprawling metropolis. From Chorillos (fabulous ceviche) through to Barranco (Bohemian and inspiring art culture), into Miraflores (trendy bars, cafes, and great shopping), and the centre of Lima itself (the historical heartland) you’ll be delighted, captivated, and entertained.
It is the capital of Peru, and a ''forced" stop since it has the only (award winning) international airport in Peru but it is so worth the stop! The city is known as the Gastronomical Capital of the Americas, mixing Spanish, Andean, and Asian culinary traditions... they say that the famed pisco sour was created in a hotel in downtown Lima!
It boasts a vibrant and active theater scene, from the classics to cultural presentations, modern and experimental theater, dramas and dance performances, Lima is alive and kicking! You will also find the highest concentration of museums, most notably the Museo Nacional de Arqueología, Antropología e Historia del Perú, Museum of Art, the Museo Pedro de Osma, the Museum of Natural History, the Museum of the Nation, The Sala Museo Oro del Perú Larcomar, the Museum of Italian Art, the Museum of Gold and the Larco Museum. These museums focus on art, pre-Columbian cultures, natural history, science, and religion. The Museum of Italian Art shows European art. And this is just a summary...
